My granddaughter and I fished our last Big Daddy Fishing Event together this past Saturday. A child and myself have been competing in this event going on 30 years now. We've made a great team, placing in the top 3 seven out of the 8 years we've fished together. 12 years old is the maximum age limit which sends her into retirement at this early age just like her aunt, uncle, and daddy before her. The bite stated off slow for us. We had 5 fish in the box in the first two hours of fishing. The next 2.5 hours put another 23 fish in the live well. We culled to a decent 20 fish limit that weighed in at 21.7 lbs. A nice mess of fish, but not enough to bring home the gold on this day. The most outstanding catch was 30 bream and 4 bass weighing in at 25 lbs. First place was a bream and catfish combo weighing in at 23 lbs. That left us with a second place finish. It was a beautiful, most enjoyable day on the water. Congrats to all the participants and winners. Thanks to all the sponsors, Santee State Park and the wonderful Rangers for all their hard work.
The sunrise that begun the day.
The cooler shot of the mornings catch.
The group shot of the trophy winners.

Congratulations on a fine fishing trip. You have a gift of a life time with your family competing and being at the top. Just think of the knowledge you'll have that others wished they had. All, I know is jig, water, fish and jerk. LOL Catching is another thing! Congrats, I know Mia is a happy camper right about now!Great pictures too!

Good job Ink. I fished that once with my son in the 70s.
Can't believe your catch came in 2nd. That was a mighty good stringer on any day.

It was a good day Ray, but the rules are somewhat schetchy as per what catches are chosen as winners. Usually a catfish wins big fish with bass, crappie, and bream/shellcracker catches chosen based on weight as the trophy winners. I would like to see a more defined set of rules in place. I would also like to see State laws for size limits enforced more stringently. I feel with relative certainty that two or three of the bass weighed in by the first place team fell short of the 14" minimum limit. They were also allowed to weigh in more than one legal limits of bream as well. But the event is free, all kids are awarded prizes and a weenie roast. So I go in with a open mind and let the chips fall where they may. It's meant to get a child out on the lake, all the other stuff is a bonus.
