sad to say, i did it....

I have tried it. Never really seemed effective though, but I still pull it out when fishing is slow!!!

Never tried it. Dad taught me the Pawnee fish dance (no - we are not actually Pawnee) when young. Doesn't work either, at least not for Pawnee wannabes, but is a good way to pass the time when they aren't biting and scares away anyone else that's fishing too close by.

All it will take is to work once then you'll be hooked for life. Besides what can it hurt.

A funny story from my youth. My dad, a neighbor, and I were fishing for a couple of hours with no real action, but it seemed every time one of us looked away from our float it would go under and then it would be too late when we finally noticed and tried to set the hook. Must have happened a half dozen times, so my dad theorized that the fish had a spy watching us and every time we turned away they'd steal a minnow. With that theory, my dad said "lets all turn our hats around backwards so the dumb fish will think we're looking the other way." All three of us turn our hats backwards and about a minute later all 3 floats went under simultaneously and three fish were hooked and landed. After that we caught fish regularly for a few hours and it didn't matter which way our hats were turned. My dad determined that we must have caught the spy on the first go around.
Now, every time I get a bite when I'm not looking I try that trick. Can't say that it works every time, but the memory of seeing 3 bobbers going down at the same time is too powerful to ignore the possibility.

I bet reliving the memories is worth every bit of turning your hat around.
