Thread: 2016-2017 SC Hunting and Fishing Regs

I'm about done trying to hunt doves. There are way to many people and small kids out there setting up to close to each other on the public fields. Private fields are scarce around here. Last time we set up with our mojo's we had five hunter walk up within 15 foot of us and set down and proceed to hunt over our set up. Anytime you can speak in normal voice to another hunter one of you need to move. I'll pass this on to my son's. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the information Ray. Me personally I'm glad to see it go back to 12. BigDawgg I agree with you 100%, years ago I was hunting a public field walking on the of the field and woods when a very low bird came by.Well this young boy(under 16) popped up out of the field and shot at the bird. Some of the pellets hit me and my buddy walking with me in the chest and neck.
Thank goodness he far enough away that they didn't penetrate into the skin but boy it still stung. I asked that boy where his father was and he said on the other side of the field and we are talking a 15 to 20 acre field. The boy was shooting an automatic and I told him right quick he better get back over to his daddy before his gun meets a tree. I don't know why a parent would have done that but that lesson taught me no more public fields. I have been very fortunate to have friends to invite me to private hunts and to join clubs. Sometimes we don't have the best of hunts(birds not flying) but we have a great time shooting skeet, helping the kids with their shooting or working the dogs.

Hey, Ray, Don and Tim we kinda live in the same area(closer than the rest) so if you ever want to dove hunt just let me know. I can't promise the birds will be flying but we can give it a try. The farmer planted soybeans and sunflowers.

Count me in. I used to have access to a farmer's field but don't anymore. Let me know when you want to go.

Hope you can connect and go. Nothing like friends having fun hollering over head, behind you and you dummy in a flurry of birds coming in. Not much taking until it's time to go. Then you can't shut up about what just took place.

Way, way back when doves went from state to federal all the rules changed and as far as I'm concerned the hunting went south. Now about all you do in most cases is sit out in an extremely HOT field and wait, wait, and wait some more. All the while youre telling yourself they'll fly before dark but most of the time that doesnt happen. Around here if there's alot of shooting on any one field then more than likely it's an illegal field and you can almost bet Mr. Green Jeans will be there soon. Oh...and did I mention the price for getting on a field now?!? Whew! Back in my day folks didnt charge to let you shoot. And for all these reasons I gave up dove hunting years ago and really dont have any desire to go dove hunting anymore. I'll just spend my Labor Day weekend fishing early in the morning and riding the AC out back at the house once it gets hot. But all you guys that hunt 'em....have fun! And if/when that sweat breaks the brow then maybe you can think of me at home kicked back with a cool refreshment in my hands.

have not dove hunted but couple times sense my father-n-law passed == opening day was our day of the year
he was restrained to a wheel chair but loved to go to a dove shoot- I thought the world of him so I took him every
year on opening day. but like has been said there was plenty places to hunt free back then and after daddy-n-law
passed I lost interest in dove hunting and again to those that still like it good luck to you
