Default Mississippi Trip. Thank you Rees Guide.

What an awesome job you, miz Tammie, and Ree did hosting crankfest. We loved being there for a short time and meeting you again, your family for the first time, seeing some old friends and making some new. You Mississippi guys sure know a thing or two about hospitality and fishing. We thank you for working so hard and making it a great success.

Crankfest happened to coincide with my wife and I's 33rd anniversary and we had a place rented called Stone Canyon Resort at Grenada. We arrived on Thursday night and scouted the ramp that we were to be launching at the next morning. Back st SCR we took a swim in the indoor pool and hit the sack to dream of fishing one of the Big Four, for the first time ever. The crack of dawn...around 7:30 am hahaha, found us at one of the spacious Mississippi boat ramps.

Not knowing anything about, or anywhere to go on the lake, Carol and I decide to do what we usually do on an unknown lake to us, and that is go fishing. My thinking is that if the poles ain't in the water, you don't have a chance at catching fish. It wasn't long until the first fish hit and the fear of the dreaded "skunk" was gone. As you can see, those Mississippi slabs sure know how to inhale a crankbait.

After a while of catching a few more fish, we ran across this beauty at a full 15 inches.

We fished till noon and called it at day with enough fish for a few crappie tacos, ugh..I mean, quite a few crappie taco's

You may ask "how did you found such fish in unfamiliar water". All I can do is quote my wife. When we're fishing unknown water and we find a biggun, she will say, "Even a blind nut finds a hog every now and then". We also decided to run some cranks with 33ft of line out because it was our 33rd anniversary. Apparently there were a few fish hanging around at that depth.

We really enjoyed fishing this wonderful Mississippi lake. We were amazed at the abundance of huge butterflies, hummingbirds (not depth finders), bunches of deer, and the giant ospreys who seemed to be having a wonderful day fishing as well. The morning went by quickly with a mixture of crappie, cats, and bass being caught. Those catfish were some of the prettiest I've ever seen and were almost white. They made their way into the cooler as well.

After a late night cooking up some filet mignon at the Viking cooking school in Greenwood, and the rest of the night battling leg cramps, we found ourselves back on Grenada just in time to be caught up in some tough conditions on the water. Lady Grenada showed us her nasty side with waves as big as I've ever been in on fresh water. We fished for a short time and found conditions too rough for us. We reeled up quickly as the waves seemed to be getting worse and then found that raising the trolling motor in those conditions was going to be dangerous. We made the decision to leave it down and run to some protected water. While never feeling like we were in any real danger, it did seem to me that we were one mistake away from being in trouble. We soon made our way back to the ramp where we visited with several local fishermen who had sought shelter there as well. We had a big time shooting the breeze with these locals who were extremely nice.

We finished the evening at 333 restaurant, just trying to stay with the theme of our 33rd anniversary.

I'm looking forward to making a trip back that direction at some point in the future to see good friends, good fish, and big butterflies.

Congrats RCC and Carol and many more. Mississippi Boat ramps are just a little bigger than North east ark boat ramps and crappie. Thanks for the post and pic's.

Congratulations to you and the Mrs. on a great anniversary trip. Sounds like you have been blessed for 33 years. And it appears that isn't going to change
