I don't think you need a chip to mark way points

Every time I try to mark a waypoint with my navionics SD card in it says cannot write on card or something like that and I have to hit it multiples times sometimes to get it to mark...are you not supposed to leave the SD card in or get a blank one or what?

The Navionics SD card has to stay in the unit if you want to see the Navionics charts. You should not be saving waypoints to the Navionics card. Check to make sure you are not in the snapshot and recording mode on the menu. This allows you to write to a blank SD card in the slot where you have the Navionics card now. It sounds like you may be trying to write to the Navionics card which you do not want to do.

They are correct. When you save a waypoint it is stored on the DF memory. Always a good idea after you have an inventory of WPs stored to save them to an SD card. The Navionics card is write protected to prevent corruption of the data stored on it. So get a blank SD card and you can save your waypoints, screenshots, and tracks if you wish. Makes it really nice if you upgrade to another DF. You can import the info from your SD card to the new DF.
IF .
If you changes makes of DF you can still do this but the conversion process to make it compatible with a different brand is cumbersome.
