You are right, of course. I just hate culling fish that have been gill hooked, and it seems like I throw back a dozen "dead" fish everytime I pull cranks......... Seems wasteful, and not really what I want to teach my grandkid at such an early age. I was raised to eat what I caught/killed or not to catch/kill it.

take the kids to the ponds and streams and let them have fun. Stock some bream and bass in a little pool if u have one. Lake fishing is just tough for the little guys. Once there ready it won't matter how many u caught, released, kept, etc... He will just have fun fishing. My favorite trips are with kids, they are easy to teach and will believe most anything u tell them!

Oh yea forgot to add, you can catch more than u can haul out on minnows and jigs if you are in the right spot. They not just eating them cranks right now. I hate killing the fish but nothing they can do about it. Something will eat them. Kinda like a deer getting hit by a car I guess

Too bad your not closer to me , we have quantity instead of quality. We cleaned 600 one week this spring. Kids love the fast action when it's on. 3 of us can limit in 1-2 hrs at 30 a piece.

I would try smaller lakes or a good farm pond with a young fella. Not sure if I would worry so much about just catching hundreds a fish on his first outting. Kids remember more than we give them credit for. When the day comes and a fish don't bite he may quickly loss interest if his fist few trips are just catching and not fishing. Heck, I'm 37 year old and still sulking after the butt whipping we got on Butla yesterday, Lol..

Rode out there yesterday afternoon. About 20 minutes from my driveway. Did not see a new concrete ramp, but there was fresh gravel at the ramp and a large parking area. Bream were popping all around the ramp. Looks like a real good bream lake. Going to try it one day this week.
