Default Kayak Trip Report, Flint River (Old Big Cove Rd) I had planned to fish the Paint Rock

I had planned to fish the Paint Rock River this morning, but found the put in under Hwy 431 closed. I ended up fishing a new section of the Flint River putting in at Old Big Cove Rd. It was a great day to be on the water. I found numerous Crappie mostly about 10 inches, returning all but three that I deep hooked. Best bait was a White 1/16oz Marabou jig working laydowns in 6 to 8 feet of water. Also caught bass, gills and catfish. Water was stained, visibility of 18 to 24 inches and 75 degrees at daylight.

I just got lucky on this one. I found several areas with water that was about 6 to 7 feet deep, in the shade with brush. I seemed every laydown held several Crappie. I almost went home when the put in at the Paint Rock wasn't accessible. I think that's what I like about Crappie fishing. You never know if the next laydown, drop off, ditch or stump holds a school of Crappie.
