Haven't had any problems with line pickup with the new 33!!
kycreek - you can find them on ebay every now and then but they go quick if they're in good condition.

I think a lot of the problems with line pickup on Z33's ... back in the day ... was that most were using 8-10lb test mono and it was "thick" (compared to today's mono) and stiff and held a coil. That coil would sometimes not let the pickup pin catch it, and you'd reel two or three times before noticing that the line wasn't coming in![]()
I started my Crappie fishing with spincast reels & 8# test mono ... and realizing that was happening, I started lifting my rod "up" after a cast and cranked the handle while lifting the rod. That straightened the line out enough to allow the pin to connect with the line.
