Narrow Lake Fishing Report, 6-17-2016:

Some days you go to work and some days you intend to go to work but don't quite get there.
I was on my way to the job site when I got a call that my new Silverado was ready for me to pick up, so I cancelled work and went to the dealership.

Since the day was kinda shot, we hooked up the boat and thought we'd see how the bluegill fishing was on Narrow Lake. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful day to be on the water.


I kept enough for dinner tonight and threw 10-12 back in the lake, since my wife is gone for a few days there wasn't any need to keep more than 4 fish.
My cousin Tim and I were using a simple hook, bobber, red worm combination, fishing in 6-10' of water, just where it drops off.
Released them into the grease, what a perfect Friday night fresh fish fry!

Great report Steve. Finally got an entrant. I typically prefer you do your own post, but I will take them added to this one also. Tried this once in Oklahoma and worked out well. Come on guys, check out the prize pack and get to posting. Danny

You right, my bad. I did an experiment with the Oklahoma guys last contest and I forgot to edit it back the old way. I am going to edit to say you can put your own post or add to this thread. Sorry for the confusion to myself. lol

Very nice catch.

Blazing hot sun, a bit of a wind, and a lot of boat traffic wasn't even enough to keep me off the lake Saturday evening. Once again I put my kayak in at the public fishing dock on the south shore across from the Back Door Saloon and went searching for panfish. My first thought was to check the grass that had produced so well just a few days earlier. I paddled directly to the same spot, but could not find that grass for the life of me. It is a rather small patch, and I know I was close, but never saw it. What I did see however was a lot of perch in the 8 inch range, and I mean a lot. I don't know when the last time I landed so many perch. In the four hours that I fished I put 42 decent perch in my kayak. I also caught a few crappies in the 7 - 8 inch range, and just a few bluegills about the same size as the crappies. But my biggest surprise of the evening was the 27 sunfish I caught. Not only has it been a long time since I landed so many perch, but to catch this many nice sunfish in one spot was awesome. They were all good ones, and, typical of sunfish, they were fighters, putting my ultralight gear through a workout. All the sunfish were in 4 feet of water in what seemed to be a barren waste land as far as structure goes. I tried everything I could think of to snag weeds, wood, anything, just to determine why they were there, but I found nothing. One of the few times I have been stumped by panfish, but I'm not complaining, just confused, and anxious to get back out to that spot and figure out why so many sunfish were in that location. I landed fish on a variety of jig and soft plastic combinations, but the best two, by far, were the pink grub with silver paddle tail, or the Berkley Gulp Alive Angleworm in natural color. Both baits were rigged on a orange 1/64 ounce jig that I had colored black with my sharpie marker several times and then wiped it off, creating a toned down orange/brown jig. The angleworm and jig combination was suspended 2 feet under my clear bobber and the pink paddle tail grubbed was simply a cast and retrieve presentation, trying to keep that bait about two feet below the surface as well. All fish caught were released

What a great mixed catch. Could the sun perch have been bedding on that spot?
