I did it the same thing,
Went and got a bunch by hand.
Even had a fwc go by.
Later I saw the rules and realized how lucky I was that I didn't get checked.

was unaware of mussels becoming a protected spieces.
Wow - what next.
If cat fishing takes off in a serious way - you'll see all kinds of restrictions issued in future.
Florida already has a lot of restrictions on ways to catfish recreationally. Cant fish jugs, bushhhooks, limblines and max 25 hooks on a trotline. Dont know what else they could do. And they have not changed anything with other species except saltwater. Still can spider rig for specks, still can use live bait for bass. Doubt popularity would change much as far as laws are concerned.
What about people bank fishing with can't poles.... No license required..... And they look down and.... Wow.....a mussel bed..... Great bait but can't pick any up cause they ain't got no fishing license.... Total BS in my book

Jugging and noodling is restricted but not bush hooks/limb lines. Catfish are not a gamefish.
Methods of Taking Freshwater Fish
Yes but I was told by FWC that they could not be unattended. And out of sight is unattended was his words. Not much point setting limblines if all within eyeshot. So yea I guess they could be legal but not much point.
