Smile Chickamauga Lake Crappie report: 6/06/2016

My snowbird friend, Pat Ryan, aka Bassert, finally made it up here from Florida to spend the summer as usual. He invited me to fish with him this AM or maybe I invited me to fish with him this AM, either way, it was great to be in the boat with him again. He has learned much about crappie fishing from the very first time that I took him several years ago.

We hit it early and quit after 3 hrs and 44 minutes. All we fished were bluffs and we had about 20 keeper crappie, 16 of which went home with me for dinner and a movie. Grin. Several shorts played with us and Pat caught a small spotted bass and I had a bass that looked in the 4 lb class to throw my crappie jig on the first jump. It is hard to fish with all these trashy green fish getting in the way. Grin.

The fish were deep, 17-20 feet or more and the bite was not aggressive but rather very subtle. We caught our fish on Panfish Assassin Tiny Shads and Bobby Garland Crystal Shads. Most on 1/16 oz jig heads. Oh, I did catch a couple on Crappie Dawg jigs in the rainbow dawg color. Pat offered me the hot lure, but being as stubborn as I am, I refused and just fished the colors that I had.

I have a trip to WB tailwaters in the morning. Cuonthelake wants to catch a big catfish, so I'm taking her up there and employing the Scenic City guide technique to huge catfish. She wants a big slimer, and I'm happy to net it for her.

Thanks for letting me "take" you fishin'
It's always a pleasure for me to return some of the appreciation for you as a teacher that you spent time with me as I started the crappie phase of my fishing
I certainly hope the bite will continue to improve here

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there is no one out to get you
