Here lately I have been seeing a couple guys on Black Bayou in Benton trolling cranks and several times I have seen them catch fish while I am only killing time with shiners.
I have no clue about fishing like this...What cranks do you guys prefer? Rod setup? How far out behind the boat? Troll speed? Etc, etc, etc.
Any help I can get is appreciated!

bassadict69, you need to get set up with theygotaeat. He lives somewhere over in the Shreveport/Bossier area and he kills the crappie with crankbaits. I have seen him offer to take folks before. Since he is so close to you maybe he can help. He seems to have this cranking down to a science. Good luck with your quest.

I mentioned varied length on the rods....try to keep four ft. of separation....and make wide sweeping turns so not to tangle. a 14 ft and a 10 ft straight out each side at the back of boat....and two eight footers straight out the back. And I sometimes run four 12 footers fanned out on front of boat pushing with a 3 oz. weight three ft. ahead of the crank bait. Here is a depth chart for pushing crakbaits with a three oz. weight.![]()

What most of the guys do to get started to see if they like it is....Use a couple of your old bass fishing rods and hold one in each hand and guess at how much line you have our...or pull it off three ft. at a time. Then if you decide you like it....get ready to spend some money.....but it sure is fun.

I just may have to do that...as you can guess by my screenname, I have plenty of bass rods!
Can someone elaborate on "pushing" the cranks? My rod holder is mounted at the front of my boat and I do not have any way to control the boat from the back.
