Thread: What size Chenille?

Not all Chenille is created equal and you just need to separate them and not try to group all kinds in same hole so to speak. You have regular Rayon and Nylon chenille and that includes new age! These usually are used most in size #2 and #3 and is a size thing that Danville uses. The Crystal and tinsel some people use #2 & #3, but myself and a lot of others are finding the Crystal in Size #10 is very good for many size jigs like for me from 1/32 to 1/4 oz heads, but also the larger ones would be even better with #12 Crystal. These are not related to metric mm type measure. So regular chenille if using #2 you can go from very small to 1/4, but you have t double wrap the 1/8 and larger!
You can not though group all chenille in same square.

almoat forgot, what ever size makes you happy is what size you should use!

I am in no way a pro, but thought I would reply with my two cents worth anyway. The chenille I buy comes in a small, medium, and large size. Most all of the jigs I tie are for myself or to give away and I tie only 1/16 oz. and 1/32 oz. jigs. With these two sizes I have found the medium will work on both sizes, but the small is a little bit better on the 1/32 oz. and the medium is better on the 1/16 oz. I have never used the large size since the 1/16 oz. jig is the biggest I tie.

painting jigs, but I will begin tying in a week or two. I intend to tie jigs from 1/100 to

He's right as well, but Small Medium and Large are names or size names that the seller put on it. The size chart for the MFG (Danville) chenille goes from 00 to 12. See link below.

Next for the Small Medium and Large, that is the 3 sizes that company has decided to offer and I am not sure what the Small is as I don't use that, but the Medium is just size #2. If your talking Crystal Antron that is different again and it only has 3 sizes, Small Medium and Large, but this is a metric type measurement with 2mm, 4mm and 6mm.

Then you get into the Mylar style chenille and is also comes in lots of sizes.

Just use medium.....there's so many ways to tie a jig with it. Under wrap, over wrap, weave, wool, shorter shank, etc etc.
Why bother with the semantics.. No rules with jigs.
Just put something under the pole your confident in.

Micro, small, medium and large are kind of general term or description of chenille sizing. One brands small might be another companies medium. You are better off in my opinion to use specific size measurements in millimeters. Not always easy to get this info but it can be found. Here is my experiences. Micro / 1mm, small / 2mm, medium /4mm and large / 6mm. On 1/16 and 1/32oz jigs with #4 and #6 hooks I most often use 4mm and sometimes 6mm chenille. On small bluegill jigs with # 10 and # 12 hooks I usually use the 2mm size.
