Default Kayak Trip Report, Flint River

I fished the Flint River today, great day to be outdoors and especially fishing! It seemed every laydown held a Crappie today, I kept half a limit for dinner and returned many, many more for another day. Also caught bass, gills and catfish. I even caught my first Sauger. Best bait was a 1/16oz VMC Hot Skirt Glow Jig in pink. Water was clear, visibility of 24 to 36 inches and 74 degrees.

Nice job. Ditch What part of the Flint River do you fish? Were you able to fish and then paddle back to your truck?

I put in at Hobbs Island Road, then worked up river. I had to get out several times to get around some shallow spots with to much current. It was worth it though with fish were everywhere.

I like river fishing because it's more about catching than searching, LOL.

Once you learn to look for the current breaks, shade some times also in clear water, you quickly realize that the fish are consistently in only 10 percent of the water. That allows you to paddle past most of the unproductive water.
