    Default Tungsten weighted jigs

I was reading the Dale Hollow Bruiser thread and it was mentioned getting the micro jigs (trout magnet or keystone minnow) down quicker in deeper water but the concern is losing the small profile. Have any of ya'll tried tungsten jigs? I tie and pour my own stuff (deffinetly not to save money) and when the bite is on I prefer an aberdeen hook/worm a small split sot and a quill. But I do think about adding it to the arsenal.

I use tungsten....way too expensive to use all the time. Plus it is a very shady business....meaning a lot of tungsten is not pure tungsten. No tungsten jigs are made in the USA and never will be because of the EPA....evidently it is a very toxic process to make the things. Many sell tungsten jig heads that are made from a tungsten powder mixed with an epoxy. I buy mine from a place out of Michigan.....I will have to look up the name but they are the real deal. Nothing like fishing a 6 mm tungsten Boogie Ball with a micro plastic body. The sensitivity is off the charts with tungsten...and it does fall quick.

    Regards

Tungsten beads are available for fly tying and can be used to make a jig, I have done that a good bit. Just not in the last few years as no one seemed interested 4 or 5 years ago when I started messing with that. I still have a lot of beads and fly hooks to make some so maybe I will do just that for my box. Also still not a cheap way to do this!

I was looking for something else when I found this picture of some jigs I tied years ago using Tungsten beads. You can go smaller for less weight because I was trying to get as heavy as I could on these jigs and why they are from 7/32 to 1/24 Oz. So just know it's a lot easier to go smaller than this!

Let me look, the 7/32 Slotted Tungsten bead weighs 1/22 Oz or very close to 1/24 oz. I don't get the same exact weight as my chart says, but close enough. For example my scale says the 7/32 Tungsten slotted bead weighs 1.3g and the chart says a little less, but I believe my scale. Here is what the charts say about weights and I will give you Brass and Tungsten bead weight on this chart (see below). Anyway I get .041666 Oz which converts to 1/22 Oz on the large size that I have. 1/24 would have been .045.

    Brass bead 7/32 = 0.5106 grams
    Brass bead 3/16 = 0.3684 grams

    Brass cone 9/32 = 0.5862 grams
    Brass cone 1/4 = 0.2868 grams
    Brass cone 7/32 = 0.2281 grams
    Brass cone 3/16 = 0.1582 grams
