Now I'm being told a max tongue weight is 100 lbs? I don't know what all this is honestly. So now I need to look the boat up in question that I am buying to see it's weight, plus the trailer's weight that it comes with?
Remember, also, that you can "change" the tongue weight by shifting weight in the boat (more or less weight towards the transom). If you have a set of bathroom scales, you can set the trailer tongue on those and get a reasonable idea of tongue weight.

I have a 3rd wheel on the trailer (trailer tongue jack) so I really don't know what the tongue weight on my boat is. All I know is .... that if the tongue weight is TOO LIGHT, it can cause the trailer to swing back/forth (jackknifing) at speed. And you definitely DON'T want that going on !!

I won't be able to do this. I am making payments on the car, as I just got it in Jan, and they told me that I cannot trade in unless I only owe $4,500 on it, and the loan is much higher than that, so no trading up.
