Any idea what all those feesh was?

When i was a young boy we lived in Houston Texas and we had a house in Galveston where my dad grew up . Dad and the neighbor hit the salt water frequently for redfish and trout . I of course wanted to go all the time and when "mom" decided i was large enough i got to go on a little boat ride .
Now mind ya i had already managed to ketch fish with my "pappy" at the duck pond before in the form of let me show you how the bears ketch fish . he watched me getting muddy trying to grab minnows for a little bit before he said here son let me show ya how the bears ketch fish . He then took his big old paw and swiped a few up on the bank . Of course i got in trouble for being muddy and he didnt seem to ....but anyway that was my first time to ketch a fish .
now onto episode one .....we launched a little aluminum v bottom EARLY am and traveled in the fog thru what i remember as some sort of docks on each side of us. the mullet were flat losing their mullet minds and jumping all over the place ! one even jumped in the boat , talk about an excited kid ...i was like WOW dad flying fish ! He of course said no son those are mullet and then of course i said lets keep some and he said they are only good for bait .But he let me keep the fish anyway . He and the fella that owned the boat were both in the we use live shrimp mode and are after only reds and trout .
So we get to a spot they like and they tell me i am up front in the boat and proceed to pull out a box of frozen shrimp for me ? Well it didnt really matter to me because i was determined to ketch a fish on a rod and reel . And you know them types of rods and reels back in the day . braid , bait caster and a hook with a bell sinker was my set up .i was told NO CASTING and to just drop my offering to the bottom under the boat while they casted way out there with them big ole orange and green floats .
Very soon after deployment fish began to get all over my frozen shrimp ! I was dragging in all sorts of strange fish like crazy much to the dismay of the better anglers with the live bait not ketchn any .....and it seems i was telling them i have lots of frozen shrimp if yawl want to try some![]()
Anyway the day finally ended and we had an ice chest full of all sorts of fish i had never seen before . My dad was like we dont keep those on just about every other fish and the man with us was like oh just let him keep them . So we finally get home and the neighborhood kids all gathered to see "the fish" we dumped out in the driveway . I am sure you can imagine at that point i was the seasoned veteran telling them how what and where to ketch fish .....some things remain vivid in ones mind a very long time and i remember that trip quite well ....
and that my friends was my first time to ketch some fish with a rod and reel ....best i can remember ....
hope you enjoy the read and have a great day![]()

Enjoyed the post and story.Keep on ketchn.Have lived and still live on the White River and its chain of deep clear water lakes, slough's,bayou's.My father, grandfather's where always taking me fishing or hunting.Growing up around 10 years old I got good enough I thought to enter a local fishing contest that gave away a fish fillet knife as grand prize with the winner's name on the Knife.Entered the contest with a 5.5 lb kentucky bass"our stream's and lakes are full of kentucky spotted bass.My grandfather's each had won a knife,My father had won two to three. To be a fishermen in my mind you had to have one of these knives.I lead the contest until the last week of the contest and a girl beat me out with a 6 lb'er I was devastated."Beat out of my fillet knife by a Girl" Bummer "They even announced it on the saturday Morning radio fishing show"She is My Wife" and yes she can still out fish me"Hope she don't read this.LOL
And with that, I'll see you on the water...
