If that is the only area you are going to fish, then yes. I would suggest scouting out an area in deeper water, say around bridge pilings using a slip float.

So I wanted to know this ... you think the Crappie have all moved deep by now? Where I fish the water is only 5ft off a Pier. Think I just need to hang up my poles?

Well, no boat so I guess that's it for me. Snakes are out and I'm not bank fishing around a river or lake that is grown up. I'm trying to find a place that has deep water with a Pier or something like that. I gave up trying to meet someone for a boat ride. I would rent a boat at Lake Purdy, but I don't want to go alone.
Try this, buy a lake map for the lake you wish to fish and look for areas accessible from shore that has a drop off, etc. Next, look at the area using Google Earth. This will confirm or deny the accessibility, at least to some extent. You will also be able, in many cases, to find laydowns and other cover, comparing that to the depth on your "hard copy" map. If shallow water leads to a dropoff out of casting range, get a pair of waders, or just wade. Plenty of fish are caught without a boat. Boat fishermen cast to the bank, and bank fishermen cast to the area the boat sits in the water!
Well off the first Pier, they say its a drop off to 9 ft and a channel that runs through there. I may still go. I just don't like going anymore because all the kids come and jump in the lake and I'm pretty sure it scares the fish off for a few days. I'll just keep looking for stocked ponds. Thanks.
Wish folks in Alabama were as nice haha. Thanks for the helpful tips too. I was trying to find a lake map, but not sure where to look.
Not sure about your area, but I have found my lake maps at Walmart. You can get them online, but I have found they are more expensive. But only by a few dollars.

Thanks. I'm just going to go rent a boat out at Lake Purdy and try that. At Lay Lake there is only 3 piers over looking a slough and a bridge that you have to climb down a hill through woods to get to and I'm not doing that. But thanks!
I don't know your area but back when I didn't have a boat, and did not want to play with the snakes on the bank I would fish below our water dams. They all have a concrete walkway, deep water and when the turbines are on we catch crappie at all times of the year. The dams that I fished I would just have to gear up to a little heavier line so as to be able to hall the crappie up the 20 ft wall to the basket.
