Thumbs up Caney Lake Report 5-11-16*

Well, it seemed like the weather was going to corporate. The wind was supposed to be 10-15 out of the south. Mostly cloudy was forecast with temps to be in the 80's. I arrived at the lake around 6:15 and was fishing by 6:30. I was going prepared, jigs, baby crawfish, and crickets (I had heard that the bream and chinquapins were biting. If they were I couldn't find them. I did, however, find a few crappie. I ended the day with 15 crappie and 3 bream. I caught 1 crappie on a 1/32 oz Gray Ghost I tied. The rest of them were caught on a 1/32 oz black and chartreuse that I tied. They wanted it falling real slow. With the wind I could only fish one pole at a time. Four fish came off of concrete pilings. The rest came off of 2 piers that were sitting in 12-13 feet of water. The fish were tight to the cover and in the shade. My two biggest were 14 inches in length. I didn't weight them but they were good fish. I kept me a few scrappers for supper tomorrow night. I also lost 3 good fish before I could net them. Water clarity was stained everywhere I fished and water temp was 71 when I arrived and 73.5 when I left. My favorite way to fish; one pole and one jig, except for the wind. The wind makes it hard to fish a 1/32 oz jig. I didn't take any pictures on the water, but do have a few pics after I got home.
