    Default THE "W"

We chose not to fish last week due to the "W". This morning dawned calm and cloudy and Jim and I headed towards Lake Oconee. After launching at our least favorite ramp we began fishing timber in open water around 7:00 a.m. Jim pushed jigs and I pulled them. The bite was good from the start and we even had several doubles. Some of the fish were tight to the bottom in the timber while others were scattered throughout the water column. We both fished about 9-10 feet deep. The usual colors worked good and especially the red/yellow/chart. tube jig I pictured on CDC a couple of weeks ago. Lake Oconee crappie like yellow. We fished until 12:00 and caught 42 fish 10.5 inches or better. The smaller fish were caught early and the better fish started biting around mid morning. Jim caught the two biggest a 14.75 inch and a 15 inch. We had not caught a 15 inch crappie in a while. The water temperature was 72 degrees. The day was perfect with little or no "W", good cloud cover, aggressive fish and almost no boat traffic. Every fish we caught was a crappie except for one small striper. What a blessed day.
