    Default Retention pond crappie

I recently found out the retention pond near my house has crappie in it, me and my 4 year old have been wearing them out. They don't have much size for the most part, but I have caught a couple that looked to be around 10 inches. We sure have had fun catching them though. I've hesitated to take her when I go to the bigger lakes because I know her attention span is at the point where she would want to leave after about an hour or 2, having a little pond just a short bike ride from the house has been great, I can take her and if she gets bored after an hour and wants to go home I haven't spent hours loading and hooking up the boat and driving to a lake only to stay for an hour. She has loved it so far so I'm hoping that if we keep going on these short trips to the neighborhood pond she will develop a love for fishing and one day I'll be able to take her with me on my all day trips.

Thx for this post. Started my daughter out just the same. Now she is grown and married. When grandkids arrive I plan on breaking them in the same way. The memories will always be with you.

Man that's the best. She's having a blast. How big is that pond?

Outstanding! I built a pond that is about 2 acres so I could take mine. I have not, don't plan to, put crappie in. My kids love it. We catch bluegills, cats and bass. Fishing with your kiddos is such a great feeling. My girls are asking for new fishing rods.
