    Default Wateree 4-30

My partner and I fished the SCCA tourney on Wateree yesterday and ended up with a 5th place finish of 9.08 lbs. The bite was very good early but mostly 9 - 11 inch fish. Allen did manage to snag a 1.60 early that kept us in the area all day. Most fish were caught in ~16 FOW longlining around 10 ft deep. After the bite slowed, we started catching the larger fish but once the fog burned off and the sun popped out it really got slow. With 15 minutes to go I landed a 1.5 and a 1 lb fish which gave us 7 fish over a pound. We really thought we had a shot at the money when we packed up for the weigh in but fell just short.
It was nice to meet some of the folks that I had never met and get reacquainted with some old friends from my earlier tournament years. I'm really getting into this tournament fishing again and had a blast all day with my partner keeping my sides hurting from laughing all day. We were so tired afterwards that I forgot to take pics but I'll do better next time.
Congrats to Crappie Buster for his 4th place finish and Drill Instructor for his second place finish too. They spanked our butts and had a good mess of fish as always. 10.12 was the winning weight for the day.

Tournament fishing is a blast but can be frustrating at the same time. I'm a very competitive person and enjoy it for that but I also enjoy the camaraderie and meeting new folks that share the same passion as I do. My partners and I made it to the classic in 97 and 99 and I found the meaning of real pressure while doing something that you love. You will experience all kinds of emotions especially if you do good for the day. The anticipation of the weigh in while your on the water with a nice mess of fish is sometimes a very powerful mix of emotions but the bottom line is to have fun and enjoy the moment. Hopefully some day you'll get to experience the wide range of emotions that come along with fishing the tournaments.

I would love to try tournament fishing too. 150 bucks to enter one is what's keeping me away knowing that I probably can't compete with y'all. Looks like it would be fun tho.

I understand that too Saluda. The larger tournaments can be expensive but the smaller local ones aren't bad. The SSCA entry fee is $150/ team and are lots of fun. It's beneficial to start off in the local tourneys to help gauge how you stack up against the competition. Starting off in smaller ones on your local lakes that you are familiar with helps alot too but it's fun going to lakes you've never been to before and trying to figure the fish out.

You and Al had a good catch!!! Them big ones are hard to come by right now for sure. The fish we caught were just as you described. The fish are poor from the spawn and just don't have any weight to them. It took a monster to weigh 1.5 lb!! Yall were in the same boat as us and needed 1 more good fish for the money, but that's how it goes. It always seems like you're looking for that one fish no matter what you have in the well hahahah. And I fully understand why your sides were hurting from laughter. It was a great time for sure. Congrats on the good catch!
