Well it just personal preference as to what molds most are of good quality. As far as colors I like do- it ×2 and it seems to be very popular. Do it makes most colors that you could ask for I just add to them, like say chartreuse I add might add a little green chartreuse to it or some highlights. I'm sure some of the guys with more experience will chime in. It might help if you told us what kind of baits you're looking at then we cold give you some better advice.

I will agree with lowe175 it is up to you on the molds we all have different opinions on who we buy molds from depending on what you were looking for. is far is that colors are used do-it x2 I will use anything else. and as far as materials go there in our wide range of suppliers. I usually do not mix our experiment with colors the only thing I may do put a drop to try to get a transparent or add more to darken or light. there are many recipes out there you can go to any of the different websites and they have forms pertaining to this. to get pearl colors I add Perl to any color to make it Perl we do add glitter if I think it's necessary to make a particular plastic bait in the rest of it will be up to you trial and error is you go along you will pick up the more that you work with that the faster that you will learn it took me three years to learn some of the tricks be careful this hobby is very addictive you'll find out when you buy your first mold you are going to be wanting more and more.

Welcome to the hobby. Look at the stickies at the top of this section. There is a thread called "Supplies" and one on color recipes. Those might help you a little.

I'm a little confused here. Are you going to start making your own lead head jigs using hooks or are you going to begin making your own plastic baits? The replies you've gotten thus far address your needs for making plastic baits. Big difference in supplies needed.

For casting lead check out Barlows Tackle, Zeiners, Nettcraft Jacobs Baits and Do-Itmolds for hooks molds and hot pots.

For making your own plastic baits check out Do-Itmolds, Jacobs Baits, Bass Tackle, Bears Baits for molds, injectors, plastic, colorants, and other goodies.

As for mixing colors to get other colors, do a search for a color wheel and purchase one of middle price range. Color wheels are a blessing for people with color challenges. Don't do a printable one because for as many monitors and printers there are in this world there are that many different versions of a color wheel that you will end up with.. Buy a 10 dollar wheel and you'll be sailing in fine shape.
