    Default Magic Minnows 4/24/16

Man yesterday we had an awesome trip to the lake. Got to meet some of my role models on the water. Justdriftin, Lamar Bunting, Slabdmeister and his wife! We fished rod tip to rid tip with Lamar and Justdriftin for 15 or so minutes. Those guys are either really really good or they had magic minnows, and I don't believe in magic! They caught 4-5 to our 1 bite! Those guys may not know it but I was learning as I watched them fish along! They were super nice and another AWESOME reason I love this site! We missed several fish throughout our trip and the fish weren't just jumping in the boat but we were catching fast enough to keep us interested! We did by the end of the trip figure out that we were fishing way UNDER the fish! Once the wind died a little was able to see crappie just inches under the water as far as a man cud see! Hundreds of them! We were in 13fow but the fish were inches deep! So we shallowed up to the point our jigs were about a foot from the rod tip and the bite picked up tremendously! Let me tell ya.....it is hard landing a fish that close to ur rod tip with 14 foot rods! We were in my buddy's boat and he has a pretty good set up but I did feel out of my element not being n my boat. We really needed a drift sock or chains because the wind was sooo bad. Drifting with the wind was more productive but.....we would get up to speeds as high as 1.3mph. 0.4 was our best speed we just couldn't drift that slow being unprepared. All in all we left with 13 nice fish and 10 of them were HUGE! [IMG][/IMG]

Enjoyed the visit ... you'll ended up doing good!! That lake has a history of a shallow bite. It will be on at 9-10 ft one second and then goto 2 ft the next. I have seen crappie cruising shallow just like you were saying. Look forward to seeing you on the water again!
