Try the area next to the Wild Life Club next to South Point landing.
Caught them in there over the years. Or try withers cove across from the S.P.L. ramp. Paw Creek should be another good area.
Just depends on where your launching from and how far you want to run.

I only have a 20 hp motor so it takes a while to run aways.

I would suggest South Point Landing or Buster Boyd Landing.
If you fish in SC you will need SC license as well as NC License.
Buster Boyd is on the state line.

I am coming from the coast, Shallotte, 40 minutes south of Wilmington. So you know what stage of the spawn? Thanks for your info.

I know that area there. HOLDEN beach every year for fish should be in all areas of spawn.
I would use the South Point Landing. Good ramps and parking.
Fishing good in the area so no need to do alot of running. Deep and shallow water.
Get you a good lake map if you can.
Good luck and post your trip for us.
Thank a Veteran every chance you get.

Got off to a bad start, launched the boat only to discover a fuel line leak at the motor fitting, after a trip to Walmart finally set off. Fishing was slow to start, finally found crappie in 2 to 6 FOW around brush. Found a few staging in deep water at the mouth of the coves, None of the fish had eggs?? Keepers were few and far between, not enough to make a mess. Hand a great day with my son so that is what I really wanted anyway.
