Thread: Bank fishing for crappie

Right now they are on the spawning beds on most lakes. Go to anywhere there is some riprap or gravel banks, put a bobber on about a foot high over a bare jig, and hook a minnow through the lips. Throw out parallel to the bank, and retrieve slowly, or use a jig without a minnow. I'm having better luck with minnows.
If your around big rocks, put it into the pocket behind rocks where the wind is blocked, and so on. Good luck out there.

That's what I did when I banked fish dueing the spawn. I'd find me some rip rap, tie twould 1/16 oz jigs under a bobber with minnows and cast parallel to the bank. I'd then slowly retrieve. I used a 9' rod. This rain and wind don't stop I might be out on the bank fishing this method, lol.

Thanks guys. If I had more time I could go out and search. I have no idea what banks I can fish that arent on private property or roads to get to them. Its a different view from the water. I only have a couple days with him. I was really hoping someone could share with me a good location. I know there are tons of small creeks off of Eufaula or extended banks areas just dont know how to get to them.

Look at Google earth for access roads for areas,,,arrowhead, juniper point, elm point,& fish creek, bug tussle , coal creek ,deer creek ramp area,, Massey point ,, all have pretty good fishing from the bank , I would probly start with the first 4 listed if I was bank fishing ,,,if the lake comes up a foot or 2 i would grab the waders and long pole and get to it,, hope this helps a lil bit at least

Thread inspired me to bank fish some rip rap this afternoon. Used the fly rod to start for something different to do. Ended up switching to ultra light when the wind came up.
No crappie, but the sand bass and Kentucky bass were biting pretty good close to shore.
Released everything, and took a couple pics.

Billy Creek off of Hwy 51 is an excellent spot, like cc said use google and you will find the road that takes you back in there where it goes into the river. Also Cole Creek under the Hwy 69 bridge just south of Wagoner about 4 miles out.
