Default 2nd Kayak Trip Report, Swan Creek WMA

Returned to Swan Creek this morning, fished from 6:30AM till around noon. Best bait was a 1/32oz spinner with a white twister tail. Kept a limit of gills and crackers, returned many more back for another day. Flintcreek meet me on the water. Another good day.

    Default Great time catching gills!

Ditch I had a great day on the water. Not sure how many gills I caught but a bunch and they were all pretty nice size....only a couple of small bream. I know I caught 7 nice gills out of the first 10 cast when I got back in the deeper water you were fishing. I might have kept a few if I could have reached my cooler. I think there are a few changes I am going to make on my kayak. I caught around 10 bass and 2 crappies on top of the gills...biggest bass was around 2 lbs. Looking forward to doing it again.

Great to meet you on the water again flintcreek, hope to do it again soon!

I also caught a dozen or so Bass, all small except a six pounder early. Only one Crappie today, but I'd guess I returned a couple hundred gills to the water today. I took a quick photo while cleaning fish with a few next to a tape measure.

Wow, was the 6 lb bass on the little spinner ? Had to put up a fight. Great catch both days. I have a question about the launch site. Is the water up enough where you don't have to wade In the mud up to your knees to get in the kayak ? Also do you fish the middle with all the bushes or the edges around the banks ? Only fished there 1 time last year and the water was way down, making it very difficult to get the yak in the water. Thanks

The water is way down, it's a beast to get in and out.

The plus is the fish have fewer places to hide!

I really hate all the mud to get in and out there, but the fish are there as DB shows us all the time! Lol WTG DB

Bob D, I've figured out that on flat and level ground I can sit down in my kayak and push it forward with my kayak paddle. Basically I separate it into the two halves and use it like a skier to push myself. In this hole I can push off to start into the water or push the kayak back on to dry ground without fighting in the mud. One of those cool things you can do with a kayak that won't work in a johnboat or canoe.
