Nice catches to you guys. Congrats. Is the reason for all the buck fish because the hens are still cruising the spawning flats and havent all made it back to the brush yet? Hows the water color where all your fish are coming from?
We are catching a mix of pre and post spawn fish, that is not unusual though. All fish do not spawn at the same time, nor do all individual fish lay their eggs in one nest. Males can be targeted specificly if that is the desire of the fishermen. When going to the banks to spawn, males will hold up on structure in shallow water ares. At Santee, live Cyprus trees are a common type structure that is used. As most know, there are millions of trees available. So it's a matter of finding spawning flats that are holding fish. This can be time consuming, but once certain trees are known to have fish, as long as the water is deep enough, those same trees will be used year after year. On other lakes, docks, laydowns, even sandy patches of bottom can be targeted for nesting, or fry guarding males. Water is slightly stained on the main lake, the back water ares are tanic colored black water.

Ink, that's some nice fish. I sure wish I could fish as much as you do again. Being boat less stinks on top of the other obligations. Thanks for sharing. I miss my trips to Santee.
You fish around Tawcaw Creek any?
Thank a Veteran every chance you get.
