    Default Weekend Santee Action

The fishing was tough with the howling winds, but some fine crappie made it in the boat regardless of the poor conditions. All fish caught vertically jigging brush and trees. Friday, Tommy and I fished together. The other two days I went it alone.

Good fishing Tim and Tommy! Hard winds all weekend made it hard to find them in the upstate but man o man I enjoy seeing the boxes full of slabs from Santee. Thanks for the reports

Actually those are Fliers, it's type of bream that looks like a cross between a crappie and bluegill. I've never caught them in any other lake before as they love to live in vegetation. I feel Florida lakes would have them due to this habitat preference. They like jigs, and knock the fire out of them if you drop it where the Fliers are living. I've caught more of them this year then years past. Probably due to water levels staying consistently up for a change. Should make for a great spawn for all species this year.

The 80's were some great fishing at Santee. After 6 or 7 poor years in the late 90's into the early 2000's, the Santee Cooper lakes have been great for the last 10 years. Some of the old fishing haunts are becoming active which is another good sign of a healthy lake.
