    Default Butler SFL small crappie


    Just spent the day on the lake. The lake not really known for crappie but we got attacked by the small crappie! LOL.
    We expected this though. They would attack anything. I know KDWP is wanting anglers to keep smallish crappie to get the population down and these fish will not get much bigger. But these are 6-7".
    Maybe this is a question for the biologist? But I believe this lake has been like this for a long time. It more of a bass lake I understand but is there any hope that the crappie will get bigger?

    I have fished Butler and it's full of dinks. Need to schedule some tournaments and thin them out a BUNCH and they will grow. Butler is a nice lake but it doesn't get fished enough I'm guessing because of location. Be fun with ultra light tackle which I have plenty of. I will put Butler on the 2016 hit list.

    I really like the lake. Caught some nice bass. Decent catfish. Great area. Like the fact it is usually not crowded. very primitave camping. Etc.
    But what do you do with dink crappie?
    Is it really worth trying to harvest them?

    Gut and head them. Scale them and cook them like bluegill.

    prolly ate my first thousand or so that way don't know how many times rolled in on bicycle with a six foot stringer full of six and seven inchers caught out at Wyandotte co. lake prolly still eat em that way but it is to slow
