Yes sir, looks like it will be going over for a minute. Then more rain middle of next week. With 51 being closed and arkabutla dam road closed to 301 over emergency outlet it makes for a long trip to go from the north to the south side of the lake in a vehicle. Seen some MO bushwhackers fishing off the 51 landing bridge yesterday morning. They must have read that report on the MDWFP site... Lol. Water got to be 30' deep under that bridge.

Looks like there building a road from emergency spillway over to cub lake road. I saw the equipment and beginning of grade work below the field office and rode to the back of cub lake road and saw the map on the board showing the future connection in red outline.

Snub by, the problem with that road they are building is they have been on it for over a year. Talked to them about 6 months ago. They are building it themselves with the 2 or 3 pieces of equipment they have. And seems to be a part time project controlled by spare money and time when their not busy with something else. I was told if they were lucky it might be done by end of this year.

Well, at least the high water should save a bunch of crappie's lives. They got plenty of room to hide out for awhile. Might be a blessing in disguise for Butla. Gonna be another good spawn it looks like. The backwaters should be full of fish and hard to locate them on a regular basis.

Thanks Mr. Weaver, I recall you and cane speaking about this the other day in another thread, wasn't sure if it was the same road. Oh well, at least it's a work in progress anyways. I'm betting the hand full of houses on Cub Lake aren't in any hurry to get all that thru traffic anytime soon. Maybe the flood the last 2 years and the one in 2011 will speed up the progress some and make the road a priority, maybe even 51 being shutdown for 2 years will help it get pushed along as well.

This is just my opinion for what it's worth. With the flooding and high water we have had last three years we have had tremendous shad and crappie spawns. The next normal year we have ole Butla is going to put these other lakes to shame. The draw back to that is it's just to small to handle the pressure it's going to get once it takes off again. I love it in one respect and hate it in another.

Ahh you know it's the dead sea cray!You know Sardis, Enid, and Grenada are the only real crappie lakes around here.Even after all that water reseeds it still ain't no gimme to catch a limit at Butla.They'll come and they'll go back to the Big 3 after being spanked by Butla.

Plan to fish the spillway tuesday. Get minnows at Tadpole's then to Coldwater and across that way.

Fished the spillway Friday among three other spots. I caught two gar and hooked another huge gar, but luckily he got off. I caught those fishing by the boat ramp with minnows. Tried elbow creek as well no bites at all, me and one other guy were the only two there. Others we're fishing off the rocks and up by the bridge over the outlet. Hoping the bite picks up today and tomorrow before that possible cold front and rain pushes in Wednesday evening. A lot of folks putting jon boats in the flooded sloughs around hickihalia, coldwater point, 306 & 55 and by 51 landing, even seen one guy put in at panther off 304. Another flood next year and I will be buying a small jon boat myself more than likely.
