Default A rookie on the Wateree !

Met up with my buddy SSRE18 bout 4:30 this a.m. Made the ride down to Wateree for some striper fun. Been hearing bout the bite being on fire. We met little brother at Taylor Creek Ramp. He was catching bait for us. That is nice ! After a few throws of the net we was off to Cedar Creek. Got anchored up shortly after daylight. Rods out. Was'nt 5 minutes and fish on. A decent 4-5 lb. fish. They did'nt run water till bout 9:30. Those who fish there know that is the key to the bite in there. But we did manage a few before they turned on the flow. Then it was lights out. 2 and 3 rods at once for a while. Tried live bait and only 1 fish. Cutbait was the ticket. We stayed steady on em till bout 11:30. The wind had really picked up and hard to keep the boat still. We managed our limit by then and was playing who will get the last bait. Ran through bout 8 dozen shad. We threw back 12 to 15 smaller fish. Had a sack full of super sized perch. He was tickled to death. Never been in Cedar Creek and only a couple of stripers while catfishing once. He is ready to go back ! A decent day for sure. Saw The S.S. Uncle Remus going upstream early. Think they had the limit with a couple cats and bunch of perch also. Little brother had the limit and was chunking back also. They was bitin for sure.

Way to go ofishlbizzness taking Stevie and showing him the ropes. He is a super nice guy and I'm glad he got on some good fish. It always seems it's hit or miss on that long trip. Glad it worked out for you'll.

Nice catch John. How big is the big one on top,,looks like a wateree heavyweight? Bait has been tough, there was a bait boat or two in cedar creek last night trying for bait.Seems like the perch just moved in in force late yesterday.,I eradicated 24 of em late yesterday afternoon .Also, caught TWO,,yes 2 white bass at cedar creek, caught one trolling a lure and one yesterday on cut bait,,both were females,I put em back,it would be nice to see em make a comeback ,,,?
