I don't remember the first year I pulled a crappie up and had a lamprey fall off of it,probably ten years ago or so....but I remember the feeling it gave me. Egads. Just made me sick to look at a nice fish with those sucker sores on em.

Just got back from a great afternoon with my bride. She had not been in the new boat. I think I scared her right off the bat. Bay was rough and I probably took off much faster than she would have liked. Fishing stinks!!!! Everybody I talked to today had similar feelings. 58 degree water and east wind. Vicki caught 2 that would have barely measured longlining roadrunners. I pushed cranks all afternoon and got skunked. No pics with the report. She said I had better not think of taking her picture with a 10 inch crappie.
Did talk to a longtime buddy who caught a 9 inch crappie that had a 7 inch lamprey attached to it. It was the 1st one he had ever seen here. I've only seen one but have seen scars on bluegills and crappie.

I fished Little Bear yesterday afternoon ended up with 1 keeper crappie 12 inches and one large bluegill. Several dinks along the way.
When are you staying there max or are you there now?
Had a largemouth last year crank baiting and a lamprey fell off of it in the boat....ugly looking buggers!

I'm headed down on Tuesday 4/5 and we'll be there until Sunday 4/10. I tried to get at least one other old guy to stay for at least a week but couldn't get anyone else to commit. This is the earliest in the year we have ever been there so I'm not too sure what to expect. Normally we go a week or 2 later. Around here (SW Ohio) we've been on fish all winter but this is a 2500 acre lake and easy check out everything. That lake is big and that 40 hp motor just seems smaller every year and it's harder to get check out everything I want to look at. I'm fairly confident we'll find some fish somewhere once we get down there. I was really sorry to hear you weren't going to make it this spring, hopefully conditions will improve for the fall.
At the end of April I plan on making a trip to Cumberland which I'm really looking forward too. I haven't been to C-land in probably over 35 years so I'm looking forward to some new water to fish. Ever since they drew the lake down for the dam repairs back a few years ago my friend and I both thought all the new cover that started to grow up on the newly exposed shorelines was going to make for some great fishing and the timeline was perfect for our retirement. This will be our 1st of hopefully many trips.
No matter what happens at C-land I will never give up on Kentucky Lake...I love it down there.

I'll be there next week. We'll be staying at Hillman Ferry again, we enjoy the campground and it has everything we need.(ice cream & warm showers) We normally fish outside of Pisgah Bay but if the weather is rough we can find somewhere to hide for a few hours in there or we can trailer to where we want to fish.
Didn't I see somewhere that you were fishing farther south this year? Did you settle on somewhere yet? We stayed at Cypress Bay resort a few years back on the Tenn line and we did pretty good down there.
Just got back home and back on here. Monday fished Johnathan and caught over 100 crappies spider rigging but only had 9 keepers. All were 13-15" that we kept rest of the fish we caught were between 6-9.5". Tuesday only caught 40 and had 6 keepers and this morning we fished two hours and caught 20 but 1 that barely kept but we ended up throwing it back since it was the only one. Had fun and learned a lot since we just spider rigging past year on our own. We have gone the whole time before and never got a bite.
Majority of the keepers we caught were in 5 ft but did pick up fish down in about 16 ft and everywhere in between. Was a little disappointed on how many keepers we got but then again catching around 175 fish in 3 days beats not catching any. Ready to go back down already.
That's why i started staying three weeks to a month down there. Good and tired when i get home.
