Yesterday, my wife Karen (My Queen) and I went to Eulfaula to try out my new HDS 9 Gen 3, calibrate the Point 1 antenna and to see if I could manage launching and loading the boat alone so my Queen would give me a Kitchen pass to go alone to get slabs in the future. We launched at Oakridge Rec area near hi way 9A and Hiway 69 to fish the triangle. All went well until we decided to call it a day as we were at the north end of the 69 riprap. So I pull up the trolling motor and turn the key on the 2013 250 Merc. Nothing! So we are two miles at least from the ramp around 5 pm. I call Allen Barret (Crappiepapa) and told him we were in trouble. He immediately starts a call list including Lake Patrol, Brian Young (Eufaula Boy) and Mark McGuire(Ranger09) and my brother-in-law Micky Hurst. My Queen is distressed but thankful the trolling motor is working so I put it on 30 ponds thrust and headed towards 9A. No boaters in sight. Allen stayed in constant contact with me. My phone rings and it is Brian Young saying he is on his way to assist. As we got to within 200 yrs of 9A bridge a jet skier appeared out of no where and towed us the remaining way to the ramp. As we neared the ramp I got a text from Mark McGuire saying he would come but Brian should already be at the ramp. As we got closer, there was Brian on the courtesy dock. I trolled up to the dock and Brian an my brother-in-law went into action. I backed the trailer into the water while Brian and Mickey loaded that Z9 on the trailer via trolling motor and winch. My prayers were answered via the Angels Among US Allen Barrett, Brian Young, Mark McGuire, Mickey Hurst and the unknown jet skier. Brian referred me to the Boat Doctor in Checota who stayed open so I could deliver the Z9. I learned when running two HDS 9s I need a more powerful battery with better reserve as those units can pull a battery down quickly. No jumper cables were on board. I will fix that today. A special Thank YOU to Allen, Brian, Mark,Micky and the jet skier for saving the day!! Oh the water temp was 63. Caught 1 2lb sandbass, however We experienced the lords blessings in prayer with these Angels who came to our rescue, no questions asked. As ALLEN SAID IN HIS THREAD, "Don't get no Better".![]()
