We had a break form Easter festivities yesterday and I was just itching to try out my new HB 859 so I went down to the creek (which is a resevoir, dammed to provide the city with drinking water).
Water temp at start at ramp was 56.8. I went way on up the creek where I usually catch my biggest fish. Never marked a fish or caught a crappie up there. Weird. Did catch a few bluegill and little KY Bass. Water temp up there was 54.6-55.
Figured the fish had not made their runs up-stream yet so I worked back down using the down imaging to check deeper wood and brush for fish. No fish marked. Did have some follows from some decent sized bass though. Water was very clear, ~4' visibility.
Gave up on the area up the creek and went down into the "big part" of the creek and fought the wind. Eased down the old channel drop and marked a stake bed and a few fish. Couldn't get them to bite however. Finally caught this guy
in a brush pile right in the bend of the old creek channel. Love that thump. I didn't bother to measure but despite looking really small in the picture he was probably about 12". Water temp was 57 down in the big part. It has some big shallow flats that I imagine warm much faster than the inflowing water.
I got ran off the water by a jet skier of all things. Idiot was out running it over where the old dam was demolished but mere feet under the water. He was runningthat thing in areas that I know are only knee deep and filled with stumps. I figured it wouldn't be long and he would pay the stupid tax. Creek is only about 20 acres total size too.
