Smile Late report on Caney, 3-25-16

I apologize for the report being so late, but here it is anyway. Me and Socks, my dog, decided to make a late run up to Caney Friday afternoon. We launched at 5:00 PM and fished until about 7:15. I caught 1 crappie that looked to be a male about 10 inches long. Threw him back immediately. Just wasn't what Socks and I were after. Water temp was 64 degrees on main lake and 66.5 degrees in the one cove we went into. The fish I caught was in about 13 FOW and about 11 feet deep. I caught him on a red/chartreuse hair jig that I tie. I had one other bite as I was casting toward bank using an ultra-light with a Roadrunner tipped with a Blue-thunder with a chartreuse tail. The fish bit the tail off. Probably a bream. Now, I need to get ready for Poverty Point next week.

PS. Socks and I had a great time. It was the first time we had been on the water in more than 3 weeks. All in all, it was a great day; the boat didn't sink, the motor cranked every time I turned it over, and we arrived safe and sound back at home with Mama around 8:00. Thank You, Lord, for a good time on Caney.
The Lord is good. His mercy and love endures forever.

The main thing is that you got to go fishing. and if you can get them to bit, that's just a bonus.
You can't fish with a hung line!

I fished Caney for about 15 hours this weekend and caught about 15 crappie in the medium size range and almost all had eggs. Caught all in about 12' of water and none in the shallows. Has been a weird spring for the spawn. Gonna try again this weekend but just being on the water is great,
