So I was out fishing with my son this afternoon and caught this sucker. I caught him in about 7-9 fow with a finesse worm on a shakey head jig. He looks like a small mouth but had a very yellow belly and very distict orange/reddish color fins. It wasnt like bloody fins like you typically see in spawning fish it was a bright orange.

about ten of em scaled and gutted, rolled in cornmeal and fried whole.Corn on the cob, wilted lettuce and a slice of apple pie for dessert is what an ozark hillbilly calls lunch.
Dinner.
The rock bass where I was in TN had red eyes and really had an attitude. Looked very similar.

Rock bass, aka black perch around here.
Here in Missouri that's a hybrid goggle eyed and a mean green sunfish. I sometimes here the old timers call them warmouths. My good friend Stlcrappienightmare and I caught a bunch of these and other species like small mouth, kentuckies another cross between a small/large mouth, and countless other panfish in the Bourebouse River just west of St. Louis. That's also a decent eating fish that's if you like eating bluegill, it's not a bad table fair.
If it's legal in your state, that fish is a secret flathead bait. It catches monster flatheads for some reason or another.
