    Default The Hill 3/6 Report

With an absolutely beautiful weekend forecast I couldn't bear the thought of not hitting the water. I've been wanting to try the Hill and after getting my chores done Saturday, Sunday looked like as good a time as any for a day trip. So, me and my Dad decided to go. This was his first trip to Clarks Hill and we were eager to get a crack at some of the fine fishing the Hill offers.

We left the house at about 5:30 AM and were on the water shortly after 7:00 AM. Our plan of attack was to fish shallow water in the backs of the creeks pushing jigs out the front.

It didn't take long before the first rod went down and the first keeper came aboard. We caught a lot of fish and had to wade through a lot of little ones but we were able to piece together a nice livewell of keepers with some really nice white crappie in the mix. For us it seemed the fish bit best before 11 o'clock. By about 10:00 we had the majority of our keepers and we started getting more and more short strikes.

The fish we caught were in 6-10 FOW and our best colors were anything with black in it. Black/blue/chart was probably the best combo, but we really caught fish on about everything we tried. Water temp was 55-57. Total catch was somewhere around 40 with 21 kept for the frying pan. All in all, it was a great trip with my Dad. We each enjoyed the solitude the Hill offers and each caught our biggest white crappie to date. I don't know that I'll get another opportunity to make it back to the Hill this year, but you can bet that I'm going to try!!

I even got a picture of my future co-captain getting acquainted with the boat controls. I think it's in her blood!!

Wow....she's a beauty. It's hard for me to congratulate you on the fine fishing trip and nice catch for admiring that little "co-captain". A good day for sure with your dad and a promise of the future with the little miss.

Good job Derek! Can't wait for my son to get there as well. My daughter loves to go with me.

That is a good catch and glad you got to share with your dad. Your future fishing partner is a pretty young lady. I know you are waiting on that first trip with her. I see it is time to start looking in shallow water.

Great report Derek. The "Lil Capt" is a doll baby. Won't be long before you can't get out the door without her. In the meantime, I doubt your Dad will let you wait a year before taking him back to the Hill.
