Default Black Warrior River Crappie Fishing

Does anyone ever fish the Warrior river around G's Landing? I'm taking up crappie fishing this year and could use some pointers. I went Saturday 3/5/16, the water was muddy with a temp of 54-59 degrees F. I was using a black and chart colored jig, about 3 feet deep. Got a couple of bites but nothing in the boat. Any pointers or advice?

Welcome, I don't fish the black warrior but it's fixing to get good every were. Black and chartreuse will catch fish anywhere that's a good color to start with when you find some fish then you can try different colors. When the water gets to 60 they should be on the banks. Good luck!

As for tips. You got to get way deeper than 3 feet right now. I use minnows.

Thanks for the input. I'm trying to learn jigs, I know that live bait is always the best bait though. I've always fished for bream and cats with my dad using crickets. I've been trying to take up bass fishing and this year I'm going to have more time off during the spring so I wanted to give jigging a try. I've only been to G's a few times, my dad grew up about 15 minutes from there and fished it a lot when he was a kid, but has not been there in years. So I guess you could say that we are starting over from scratch.

I've never fished that area, but if there's current look for trees laying in the water that block the current. Crappie won't set in the current, but will dash out from a current break to grab bait as it passes by.

Hey I know this is a really old post but I just ran across it looking for some information about fishing the mulberry fork area. Here's my personal email. [email protected] let me know if you have any tips
