    Default Murray 3/4/16

I had been trying to run down a problem with my front depth finder which was running off the US2 transducer on the I-Pilot. I finally found the problem, it was a bad connection in the head of the TM where the cable from the shaft connects to the cable that runs to the DF. When it was assembled, they failed to seat and tighten the connection. Took it 2 years, but it finally came loose. I had changed every other wire on the boat before I found the problem.

I hit Murray Friday morning and I have to say for early March it was really nice weather. I had gotten several reports that the crappie were in the river channel (Little Saluda) above the Boy Scout camp, so I went there. There were about 6 other boats in the area, all tight lining as was I. I fished from 8:30 until 1 and had 1 fish in the well and 2 throw backs. I saw maybe 5 other fish caught during that time.
So I went back into Clouds and Beaver Dam creeks where I had launched and caught 3 more nice crappie and 4 decent White Perch(if there is such a thing ).
Made a nice mess, which will hit the hot oil tonight. Been awhile since i bothered keeping and cleaning any so I am looking forward to some fresh fish.

This is a shot of the DF after I got it working. This is my jig over a brush pile I put in Clouds Creek, which has yet to produce a fish.

This is one that preferred a Rooty Tooty 309 to a minnow. I had 4 lines with minnows and two with jigs. 3 of the smaller crappie that I threw back also hit the jig instead of minnows.

I did not get this framed like I wanted to. This crappie was so fat I could not get her head all the way down to the bottom of the checker to measure. I knew she was legal size, I was curious as to how long she was. Somewhere around 12" best I could tell.

And for Butch and Tim, the cooler shot with a couple of perch upside down in it.
This is the longest I had stayed out in several months and I can tell you, by the time I drove 20 miles back home, put boat away, cleaned fish and got a shower I was one tired puppy. Also got some wind and sun burn so I got to start putting on some sun screen. Been so long since we had any sunshine, I did not think about it,

Great report Ray! Nice pix too! You did very well considering the cold rain and cold fronts seemed to really give them lockjaw around our parts the past couple days. Glad to see you got the FF working. Stuff like that makes me ill when it occurred at manufacture. Do they not test the connex before shipping motor out ?

John, what made it so hard to find is it worked fine for two years. Started acting up when I put a new DF on the front. That sent me in every other direction you can imagine. I now own 2 adapter cables for Humminbird to I-Pilot.LOL Also got new wiring from battery to DF.

I'm not sure this old body could handle it. Would like to go at least once a week though. More during the spring when weather is nice. I had on my heavy rain suit yesterday since my boat got soaked in that rain Thursday night. It felt good in the wind though, never got too hot.

Default A fitting end to the story.

The fish made a great dinner for us tonight, along with slaw and sweet 'tater fries and topped off with a slice of Lemon Meringue pie. Nap time now.
