I've banged all through them with jigs and never hung one. I guess if you had a 1/0 or 2/0 hook on a minnow you might.
After they've been in the water a while they'll cover over with algae, that brings the minnows and everything else. I got a couple in one spot on wheeler that's on either side of an old stump. It always holds at least one big bass along with crappie. I've caught several green carp in the 6 or 7 pound range over the last three years. They always work best in areas where there's very little cover or to enhance an area that's already holding fish. If you can find a creek bend in 12 to 15 feet of water that usually holds fish. Add a few of these and it will become a year round, sure thing for years and years.
