Thread: BIGTIME CRAPPIE BITE !

I would tend to agree that most odd shaped crappie have a birth defect or something similar that causes them to look odd . This particular fish went in the cooler with a bunch of others so i had the chance to put a little dissection on it myself . The upper protrusions of the vertebrae that look kinda like the fin bones were actually fragmented under the skin and bunched up by the area closer to its shoulder . Since there were shards of bones around the area i am pretty sure it was some kinda on wound .
i guess its still possible it was birth defect but i dont think bones can grow like that ?

maybe it was picked up and dropped by an Eagle or cormorant or other water bird

i still think turtle ....IMHO ....
one kinda like this common snapper maybe ?

I will agree with you. I've seen some that had a perfect triangle cut out of them. A perfect match to a turtles mouth.
