    Default John Redmond dredging

Stopped by the lake yesterday and talked to 2 people (one who was employed to lay the pipe). Here are some comments made by them as they apply to the project...

They are going to lay 13,000 ft of pipe to carry the slurry out of the lake. As I was pulling into the boat ramp area they were just finishing up going underneath the dam road (right at the turnoff to go to boat ramp).
The 24 inch pipe will carry the slurry material through this pipe and dump it into 2 holding ponds (located on the south AND east side of the dam). Was told the pipe will cross the dam road (underneath) at the exit to the boat ramp area. It will head back towards the dam, cross the dam and drain into the 2 ponds. The area to be slurried will start approximately 6,000 ft from the shoreline on the east side of the lake. They will have floating pipeline extending out into the lake. Project should start this spring. Was told that they will work their way up to Jacob's Creek. Both people mentioned how the power plant was helping with the funding. I got the impression from them that wolf creek was VERY involved in this adventure due to the fact that they pull water from the lake frequently. It was mentioned that the lake water can get really warm (he mentioned that if the water temp gets to 94 F they have to shut down the reactor. From his explanation it appears the lake water can get in the high 80's and low 90's frequently. The contractor has agreed to take out XXXX amount of silt. Will take a couple of years to complete. The plan is for the water to drain out of the ponds and they will haul the dry material off.

As Wolf Creek has their finger in this seems very obvious that this project will get done and get done fast.

I drove around Redmond today. You can see the construction material ready to go on the West side of the campground West side of the dam. Dirt haulers and movers busy on South side East of dam. Hope this provides some structure to hold some fish. As there is hardly any structure in the lake proper.

All Redmond is for Wolf Creek is a source of make up water. if you look below the dam at the concrete building that is where the pumps are located.

FYI boys fall outage this year. Plant will be down from late September till the first week in December

Does that mean they're not going to shut the plant down this spring like they normally do?

Doesn't normally go down ever spring. It's just how it worked out with the mid cycle outage. It has to refuel every 18 months. Last refueled last spring so it's a fall outage this year. Will be a spring outage in 2018.

drove by Mon...most of the pipe is gone. Went over to where they were making the "holding" pits. They sure have come a long ways. Didn't have camera, will take it next time. These retaining pits are HUGE. Lots of BIG earth moving machinery. Looks like they are staying right on top of this and are moving forward!!
