Does anybody use the Stick Guards on their jigs? Just found out about them and it looks like a good idea. Kinda like a Texas rigged worm. Seems like you might have to get a hard hook set and that is always easy.

IMHO the jig heads with the brush guard built in work better. Also as huntin stated the others will aggravate an ol boy!!!!!

Thanks for confirming what I was thinking. Have a hard enough time catching already and diffently don't need any help in that department!
I had no problems with them just have to barley place the hook in and a little harder hook set !!!

I tried them ... actually, I used the Laker brand "Stick Guards". Didn't care for them, but for different reasons than what's already been said.
I found them to tear up easily, after catching a fish and reinserting the hook point back into the guard. Just seemed like they didn't last for more than a few fish. But, the most frustrating thing about them was their tendency to bend in towards the hook, unless you pushed the hook point well into the guard. That bend towards the hook made the guard basically useless around cover, since it didn't do anything except guide the hook point towards snagging up.
After I gave up on the "stick guard", I went to using the (formerly available) Oldham's Sure-lock Weedless Crappie jigheads ... until Terry Oldham stopped making them. By that time I had started using the weedless jigheads that our member "Grousefly" makes ... the regular brush fiber style & the Y guard style. I prefer the Y guard style, and have used it successfully for nearly a decade ... and with FAR fewer snags & problems than the "stick guard". PLUS, I don't have to constantly be adjusting the guard or reinserting the hook point.
Grousefly also makes several other versions of "weedless" style jig heads.
Like these:
The brush style is top center & the Y guard style is the one next to it, to the right. I do know that he has black Y guards & clear Y guards, but not sure if he has them in other colors.

I've Never used a brush guard. I think a much better choice would be to use a light wire hook in your jigs and just pull em loose.
