If you got 3 lbs of the small, or Tuffies, minnows you going to be doing a lot of fishing. There are maybe 12 to 14 dozen in a pound?? Course we go through 4 to 5 thousand crickets in a week in Florida....6 of us.

Ha ha , yep that was a lot of minnows. I have a 250 gallon tank they are holding in . I hate trying to keep them alive when I'm fishing early mornings.

I wonder if the minners know that they are about to be in a world of hurt

That's the reason I only fish with jigs, I just have to worry about catching fish. Not trying to keep the minnows alive too.

Minnows this time of year are pretty hearty . I can keep up to 3 dozen of them for at least 2 weeks setting beside my house. If the temp s going to go below30 I move them inside till I go to work in the morning and they never miss a beat.I don't change the water until I take them fishing ,then refill them with river water. I haven't used them very much this year since I don't use them bridge fishing and the place I like to use them has been under water because of tva since December thanks to a lot of rain !! I do use them to catch Sauger though and its been a good year so far for that. I don't think I could keep 3 lbs of them like that though , probably have to put them in a 48 QT cooler HA

I'm not a hater of minnows. That's the way I grew up fishing.

Me personally, I'd buy a couple dozen and get into the fish. Run out of minnows and couldn't find a jig they'd take.

The next trip I'd bring 6 or 8 dozen minnows and never find the fish. Then spend the next week working and trying to keep them alive until the following weekend. Every morning and afternoon I'd change the water and count the dead. By Saturday I'd be down to a dozen, maybe 18 and wondering if I should buy more.

I decided I was going to learn to catch Crappie with artificial only. I haven't fished with a minnow in over 10 years and do ok most days.
