Ok I will play.
My wife was a high school friend’s sister. We had taken Karate class together for 2 years and were even drivers educations driving partners. My wife was a grade behind me in school. My senior year in high school, I entered into a busy cafeteria full of people and activity. To my eyes, for a split second, the place was empty with my wife sitting in the middle of it wearing a wedding dress. I told a friend of mine there and then that I was going to marry her.
After Graduating from high school and attending Marine Corps. Recruit training, I was home on leave when I asked my wife out for the first time. She had just graduated high school. Our first date was at Dairy Queen, where we sat outside and ate their “newest” creation the “Blizzard.” We watched a domestic incident take place outsides on the steps of a house across the railroad tracks for the better part of an hour before the police arrived. We went out a few more times before I left for Infantry training school and assignment in Charleston SC.
From 1986 to 1988 we carried on a long distance courtship. Charleston SC to Fairmont WV. When I say long distance I mean 586 miles 8 ½ hours from my parking space at the barracks to the front of her college dorm. I drove home at least twice a month and as many as 4 times a month. I was constantly broke, but I was in Love.
In May of 1988 we got married. My grandmother later pointed out, that my wedding date happened to be her birthday and also the day I graduated from boot camp. Our wedding day missed being the same date as our first date, by 6 days.
So in summary we have known each other and been friends for 33 years, been together for 30 years and married for 28 years in May. We are still friends and I wouldn’t trade her for anything.
