    Default Spider rigging thoughts

I fished the spider rig hard the year before last about this same time of year. My grand total was 1 bluegill and 1 bass. So far this year I'm still batting a zero. I'm sure it might be fun if they are biting. I spent all day today fishing over through and under brush piles with the spider rig with jigs. Nada. If anyone would let me go with them to learn what I'm doing wrong I sure would appreciate it. I can go any day of the week except for Sunday. If you fish minnows I'll buy plus help with gas.
Thanks PDog thanked you for this post

Not near as much fun as vertical jigging but it produces, but then so would a net.

Warning it's addicting. Meatgetter helped me get started and is good to help out. Warning as you will be buying minner critters before ya finish fishing. His wife makes some good colors.

A lot of times it's not what you are doing but it's where you are fishing the fish aren't there.

How are you rigging up? What kinda setup? Maybe give us some info would help steer ya in right direction. A lot of variables and not as easy as some folks make it out to be unless you fish nimrod where Meatgetter says they are pirrana crappie lol.

If you cannot catch any at NIMROD spiderring you need to become a golfer because you will never be a fisherman! !!

I totally believe in line counter reels for this. I know it isn't necessary when they are shallow, but my confidence goes up with the line counters. Besides, if rigging doesn't work,I can easily switch to trolling cranks.

I'm in Beebe. I was fishing at Conway in the lakes with 4 rods. Rods were set at 4', 5', 6' & just above bottom. Rig was a jig on a dropper, about 15" to a swivel and a barrel sinker then about 15" to a 2nd jig.

Most of my fishing has been for bass. Never had a bass tournament at Nimrod so I've never fished it. I am very familiar with Degray, Ouachita, Hamilton, Greer's, Dardanelle and the AR river. The problem is I was catching bass not crappie. Just started fishing for crappie again 2 years ago. Before that the last time I fished for crappie was about 20 years ago while I was stationed in OK.

This past summer I fished Conway several times a week and got fair at catching them with the jig pole. Other than that I like to use a spinning rod at Maumelle and do fairly well there. The spider rig is my nemesis.

One thing that will help this time of year is to use just minnows and go slow like at .3mph
