I have abuddy wanting to buy my humminbird 899 and wanting to pay me way more than whats its worth sold used (in my opinion). I told him his offer was too generous and he told me that he wanted My unit with MY waypoints because its set up just the way he wants it. I told him he could buy a new one for a tad more money and I would set his up and give him my waypoints etc. He declined he wants MY unit. So My first question is....
1:Should I take his offer and buy a Helix 9 and upgrade the transducer for a lil more money than what my buddy is offering me. Question is...Is the helix 9 considered an upgrade? I like the fact that it has autochart live built in.
2: (This is the most important question) I see where the Helix 9 can communicate wirelessly to other units. But can I still use the cable so it will communicate with my Humminbird 859 that I have on the front of my boat? Because my 859 will not communicate wirelessly. I just bought the durn cables so my 899 and 859 will communicate and I dont wanna feel like I'm wasting approx $100 and be back in the same boat (no pun nitended) with 2 units that wont communicate. Thanx for any advice in advance!

My opinion on question number one; if you're comfortable with the set up that you have now and hadn't really thought of upgrading before your buddy made you an offer, I'd stick with what you have. If you have been wanting to upgrade, then maybe you should take his offer. Ultimately, this will be your decision alone.
In reply to question number two: the Helix models can connect to and share with the core models ending in xx9. This may help you with your decision.
Thanks guys this answered my questions. I have been contemplating buying the computer software for autochart and would have to buy a laptop computer on top of that because I only have a Macbook. So to upgrade would actually be cheaper than buying all the plus I would have an updated machine. Believe I will make the change.

I think there is some misconception about the wireless connectivity ...
Both the HELIX (standard) and the core series (with newer software) can use the RC1 Bluetooth remote that connects wirelessly and controls functions of the unit ...
There is no wireless connection between units ... Connection between HB units is by Ethernet only ...

Ordered me a brand new shiney HELIX 9 SI/GPS this morning! I'm excited! I never thot these sequence of events would have taken place and I end up with one. I couldnt have sold my 899 probably if I tried. Took a buddy out used it....smoked the fish with it.... and he said I HAVE to have your 899 and he meant it too by George!
Not sure if anyone answered your question on Helix 9 vs 899 (or Helix 9-12 vs 800's-1100's). A few more features, like auto chart live built in with up to 8 hours recording. Also, bigger screens for the money, bonded glass screen looks better, 50% brighter, and 25% more power on their processors. 899 is still a great unit, Helix 9 is just a little bigger, brighter, faster, and clearer.
It should be in this week! Thankyou for chiming in for me! I'm excited!!!! I will definitely post images once I get her hooked up!
