Default Kayak Trip Report, Susie Hole

Parked at the bar gate and walked my kayak into Susie Hole this morning. Not much to report, fish haven't move in yet. I managed three Crappie, all 14 to 15 inch Black Crappie. Water is at what would be full pool, muddy and 46 degrees. The cold weather next week will make it worse. I guess I'm back to fishing deep for a few more weeks.

I was afraid the cool weather would put them off. I'm going tomorrow evening but I got a feeling it's going to be tuff.

The deepest water in Garth Slough and Susie Hole is about 6 to 7 feet deep with most around 4 feet. While some crappie stay year round, it's primarily a spawning area. If I had more time I would have followed the deeper water areas back under I-65 towards Flint Creek and the main river. I just didn't have half a day to look for the fish. Somewhere along that "highway" the fish should have been staged. If it stays warm they move shallow and further into the slough, a cold weather trend will push them deeper and back towards the river.

A ditch basser thread with no pics is a really bad sign. If he's not catching, no one's catching.

I wish I could get out but with multiple knee surgeries and bad arthritis I can't hardly go in this cold weather, I would just love a warm day or two! At least you got out DB!

DB can have a slow day too, sometimes it takes a while to get on a pattern. I'd promised my wife to take her out to eat and looking at new sofa's so I just didn't have enough time to keep looking. No wind Saturday so it was a beautiful day to be spider rigging!
