Default Sumter angler catches 4-pound crappie from Santee River

Just read this and thought I would post it here. They caught a 4 lb. and a 3.5 lb crappie on the same trip.

Had a friend go down the same weekend. They fished with another guide in the same area (apparently there were lots of boats fishing the same area). They kept 60 fish and said 6 were over 2lbs. They didn't catch any in the 3lb range though.

The fishing in the river has been some of the best ever. No, I haven't tried it. But I know a few that have. Many two pound plus fish caught, limit catches with all fish categorized as true "SLABS" If giant fish and crowds are your thing, head to river and get ya some!

I agree with inkadabber. If you want your blood pressure to sky rocket, go fish there anytime in the next 6 month's. I have fished that river for 35 plus year's. It use to get so bad when they would spill water that people have shot holes in other people's boats. I go play with the American shad there during the spring, and there are ton of people there then, but I can always find somewhere I don't have to fight people to catch them.
